I hope you can join us for the annual Open House at my studio in the Texas Hill Country. This year Dottie Moon and Stevie Lake will be here to share their wonderful work with you too. Dottie makes lovely jewelry and has begun following her passion of silversmithing. Stevie makes fun and fabulous copper sculpture that can live indoors or out. They are creative, talented and super women with unique work and a style all their own.
I will be unveiling new original images, especially for the Open House. The bounty of my experience in Africa is beginning to flow and when I went searching on the wood for ideas, I was surprised by what manifested. I look forward to sharing with you the art and stories of that great adventure. I will also have some new American wildlife images and a new horse or two! Go figure.
You are invited to listen to live music from our extremely talented local musicians, enjoy the art, discuss the creative process, and walk the trails around the property. Dress casual and comfortable. You are welcome to check out the very messy woodworking shop where the hands-on work begins for the medium of pyrography. Feel free to ask about the rainwater collection systems, heating with wood and the passive solar heating of the studio.
A new guest house (AKA the Dream Shack) is also underway and it will be built largely out of recycled materials with a design focused on energy conservation and space utilization; "Living large in a small space". Keystone in this project is the solar toilet, passive solar heat, creative uses of materials, artistic license and a boat-load of fun.
This year we have the party pavilion!!! This is where the musicians will set up to play and you can revel in their precious offerings.
We will have some light snacks for you to enjoy, tea and bottled water. Feel free to BYOB.
Directions:
From Austin take 290 W. 9 miles past Dripping Springs turn right on 3232 (The road to Pedernales Falls). Go 3 miles and look for Flat Creek. Wildwood Lane turns left immediately before the creek. It’s a dirt road.
Go about a ¼ mile, you will cross a concrete bridge. We are the first place on the left AFTER the bridge.
You will see the workshop first - a big metal building. Drive past the shop (uphill) and turn into the driveway by the cedar fence. It is a circular drive and the first one is blacktop. The first building is the studio. 491 is posted on the fence.
The house and studio are wood painted light gray with a metal roof.
From Johnson City take 2766 towards Pedernales Falls State Park. It is between the Exxon and Mobile Station just south of the traffic light on 281. Go about 8 miles down 2766 and you will see 3232. It only goes to the right and is immediately before the park entrance. Go 3 miles down 3232 and you will come to Flat Creek. (Slow down) Immediately after the creek you will see Wildwood Lane on the right.
