Woodburning Class!!!

A $30 deposit required upon sign up, which will go towards the class when you attend.

Schedule:

10:30 – 1:00 Introduction to burning tools, wood, burning techniques, drawing, design and composition, color application, working flat and working on free-standing pieces, controlling the tools, practice.

1:00 -1:30 Lunch break. Bring a sack lunch

1:30 - 2:30 Fieldwork around the studio. We will learn about observing objects and nature, light and shadow, taking photos to work from and seeing artistically. A tour of the wood shop will include discussion on wood selection, wood preparation and presentation of your piece.

2:30 - 5:00 Work on your piece, more practice, burning with a torch, more on various color applications.

5:00 -5:30 Question and answer time, information on finishing, suppliers, wood properties, making reproductions.

Bring wood-burning tool and tips if you have them, camera, notebook, sack lunch, A project if you have one, wood blank that you want to burn on if you have one. If you don’t have a wood-burning tool let me know.

I will provide practice boards, wood for projects if you do not have one, reference material, table easels, informational handouts, work space, lighting and electric, colored pencils and supplemental tools. I have 2 tools for 2 students to use so if you do not have one sign up early and reserve a tool. I will have several pieces in various stages of completion for you too see.

My studio is 3 miles from Pedernales Falls Sate Park in the Texas Hill Country between Austin and Fredericksburg. There are some very fine art galleries in Johnson City as well as the Beninni Sculpture Ranch southwest of town, which would be fun for you to visit while you are here. Johnson City also has many interesting shops and a superb restaurant, the Silver K Café. Weather permitting, there may even be some bluebonnets beginning to bloom on this weekend. Come have fun and enjoy the beauty.
